And this is Part 1 of the interview, to be continued but here's what went down:

Welcome to Mzansi Avenue

Thank You for Joining Us

How are You?

Veekay: Thank you for having me, I'm all good thanx and I trust you're doing well as well. My name is Veekay real name Vusumzi Khumalo from Mahikeng in the North West Province. I'm an award nominated vocalist, songwriter, music producer, performer, audio engineer and founder of VilleMagic Productions.

Thanks for that grand introduction, North West truly has talent. what do you do?

How did your love for music start and what was the convincing factor that made you pursue it?

Veekay: I grew up in a musical family and my Grandmother would play Michael Jackson's music and show me his performances, that's how the music bug bit me. I wanted to be a great musician and performer like him, for me it felt like I could change the world through music as well and heal the lost souls that needed comfort.

That's truly beautiful, wow! Any fears that almost held you back and how did you deal with them?

Veekay: Seeing how many artists were unfairly treated by their recording labels after signing bad contracts nearly made me quit, I never wanted to be in the same situation and that's how I started my label and signed myself. As much as it's challenging, at least it minimized the fears I had.

Independence is a great thing. How would you best describe hour artistic identity and how did you come to establish it?

Veekay: I love making timeless music that connects with people's souls, I want people to always be able to feel better when they listen to my music while going through challenges or celebrating something. I listened to a lot of artists who have the same vision as me and that's how I identified and established my artistic identity and I must say it worked out very well.

Many struggle to find what works for them, happy you have it on lock. As a singer, do you have any vocal exercises before you hit the studio?

Because I've heard your voice and it's amazing...

Veekay: Yes, it's very important to do vocal exercises as it warms up your vocal chords before a hectic studio session, the one thing you don't want to do is to end up with damaged vocal chords because of not doing vocal exercises and thank you so much for the compliment, I appreciate it.

You're welcome, always! What's your daily motivation?

Veekay: "1 song at a time, you can change someone's life for the better". That's my daily matra and seeing how my music is doing well globally motivates me daily to never stop believing and to keep going no matter what.

Gotta keep it going, yeah! Which song is currently on your playlist right now?

Veekay: I'm currently enjoying Umaqondana by FEZA, brilliant production laced with amazing vocal arrangement. It's a beautiful timeless song.

Will check it out and Out of all the projects you've worked on, what have you learned about yourself?

Veekay: I've learned how super creative I am, the way I always experiment with sounds and come up with brilliant music sometimes leaves me in awe and I'm forever grateful for this talent.

Not afraid to step outside your comfort zone, that's bold. Tell us about your support system and what they mean to you?

Veekay: My family, they've really pushed me since I started and believed in me so much that there was no way I wouldn't work as hard as I'm working now. I want to reward them with nothing but hard work and success.

Family is precious. Which genres would you like to explore in the near future?

Veekay: I know many will be surprised lol, but I'd love to explore maskandi. There's just something about the production that always intrigues me.

Wow, I think you'd sound good on a Maskandi record. Your least favourite thing about the music industry?

Veekay: I don't like how real talent is always overlooked and gate kept, it demoralizes alot of artists and many end up quitting because of not being given a fair chance.

Yup, jamming the elevator is a classic sabotage move. Would you ever consider a full length album for a TV series or feature film? What would be your dream collaborations, go all out.. let's say a romcom or superhero movie..

Veekay: There's a documentary I already made music for and after the project I fell in love with the idea of making music for films and TV, i really enjoyed it and look forward to being involved in more projects.

I would definitely love to make music for action films and romcoms because I'd have to be super creative in order to capture the emotions and the attention of the audience.

Dream collaboration is definitely Kabza De Small, he's a musical genius and I know working with him would elevate my creativity to a whole new level as well.

Looking forward to it, you seem to have a focused vision, brilliant! The first time you heard a song and were truly blown away...take us back to that moment, tell us the name of the song and why

Veekay: Definitely Heal The World by Michael Jackson, it's a timeless classic with a beautiful message of hope. It inspired me to write such songs as well, it'll forever be special to me as it shaped me to be the artist that I am today.

À timeless hit! What are we yet to discover about you?

Veekay: People are yet to discover how very good I am at discovering new talent, be on the look out for 2 djs/music producers I discovered and signed called Mindlonator and K-Max d'Musiq. It's only the beginning, but they're doing so well and I couldn't be more proud.

You're doing such incredible work, I'm amazed, will definitely be on the lookout for them. Anything lined up for 2026?

Veekay: I'm working on a new house album titled Gratitude, trust me this is my best work to date. Already a single from the album titled "Ngijabulile" hit number 1 on the music charts on 2 radio stations.

Congratulations, Celebration!! Confetti drop!! What are some of your career highlights so far?

Veekay: My highlights have to be the release of my debut album "One Love", which changed my life forever. Being nominated for 3 awards, being playlisted on multiple radio stations globally, big collaborations with top SA music producers and Djs Bob'Ezy and AndileAndy. Sharing the stage with some of the biggest acts in South Africa and being recognized as one of the top talents to come out of South Africa.
