Entertainment Avenue: Descendants Wicked Wonderland (Review) Timeline Alterations and Banger Bops, A Huge Step up from its Predecessor
Entertainment Avenue: Descendants - Wicked Wonderland, a Royal Brawl and Alarm Sounding Stakes!
The 5th installment of Disney's hit franchise which also has had animated shorts and films wins yet again after mixed reviews to Rise Of Red (2024), they had big shoes to fill and a lot to make up for, going down the rabbit hole never seems like a good idea unless you're Alice of course and this time around we deal with the consciences of time travel and alterations to suit our own selfish needs and how the change isn't personal it rewrites destiny, affecting those around us as Red soon had a rude awakening.
She and Chloe now best friends realize life is different and it unsettled them because they were only trying to do the right thing and Max Hatter holds the Queen of Hearts prisoner with a quest to find the pocket watch, having witnessed what our delightful duo did in the past. The villainous kids tag along this rescue mission which brings a lot of challenges and twisting turns of character when vulnerability's sudden visit brings new alliances and bridges set on fire collapse breaking a connection. Fortunately for Red, her rebellious side can seem impulsive yet she sings her way to a happy reunion breaking Chloe free from the rage and bottled up bitterness. Working together to put an end to all that was wrong and threatening, of course a message for our audiences that a harsh sentence isn't always the answer. Cancel culture who?
Overall Wicked Wonderland lives up to its name, the kids find themselves in high risk situations and dance, sing their way through the fire and its fury. The music also stepped up to the dancefloor, it's catchy and adds to the story with many memorable cuts such as the climactic "Who I Am?" As Red searches for answers after Chessy tries to drive her insane with guilt. The movie gives you an adventure, sing and strut to the structure that eventually comes together beautifully and stands instead of crashing down like a house of cards while there moments where it feels like there's filler and useless banter, it's still an enjoyable watch. Pink and Luis were nice additions, Hazel Hook wasn't à cliche female character and we love it. They allowed her to grow and not just be a one flavour and go bland next type of delivery. The closing scene sees pink finding a glow that may introduce a new evil or bring some charm to her life. What's it gonna be? Chessy is indeed always blending in and scheming, a lover of chaos who revels in the misery of others.
Score: 7/10
