This movie is based on the New York Best Seller of the same name by Pastor Mike Todd. I was sceptical at first but I really enjoyed it. The characters were a great pairing from friendships to working relationships and romantic interests there was a satisfying watch from each and every scene, kudos to the casting director.
Leah is an independent and ambitious young woman who is part of the production team awaiting a promotion as showrunner with her boss retiring, all seems set for her to win. Only to discover that she has to compete for the position against her ex boyfriend Jarret Roy who cheated, leaving a bitter memory and he comes across as smug, good looking and insufferable during his jaw dropping entrance but we get to see that he's definitely a mature man who acknowledges his own flaws and showcases an applaud worthy side to manhood. He gives a breathtaking and mesmerising attempt at proving himself and instead of getting even with his sour lemon and still hurt ex, he applies patience. Meanwhile Brenda and her longtime boyfriend are having commitment issues as she feels he's holding back and she can't keep giving when she's not receiving the same amount of effort. It definitely hits you with harsh realities on how some end up stuck and settle until they address the situation. Or the art of suffering in silence scared your partner may not want to marry you, it hurts doesn't it Hun?I definitely enjoyed her storyline more, was so happy she got a wedding it was heart warming.
Leah is a headstrong and stubborn woman who at times can be frustrating but once bitten twice shy is her thing and we get it. Eventually the wannabe showrunner stops holding back and produces a brave act one that'll have her heart beating to the rhythm of love, as she finally admits her feelings for her ex who has been trying to prove he has changed and didn't really want the job but she was always the goal. Matters of the heart, a man who wants to win and be affectionate!
Treese on the other hand is singing Bad at Love by Halsey as she feels the pressure from her family and gets left during a date, starting to feel hopeless; she reads the book and fixes her aim, she goes on a series of dates yet doesn't quite land in the arms of the man of her dreams while there are soft hints of a growing flame in the office with the guy she finds annoying and he loves every minute of her coming at him like he's been on Santa's naughty list.
The movie is fun like a girls night out but also accommodates the guys with Method Man as he also receives screentime for a male perspective. There are many relationship lessons that are beautifully structured and the actors dive into things with such an intriguing performance.
Relationship Goals touches on Faith which is definitely appreciated especially for Christian couples who have been navigating various stages leading up to marriage and how to counter or overcome conflict. How to keep the fire burning and personal issues that could threaten the relationship.
We give it a 7.6/10.
